Hi friends! I am thrilled to be joining in this blog hop with Wow! Embossing and Whimsy Stamps! I have created two cards for you today using the same stamp sets in different ways.

For my first card, I started by embossing this gorgeous background stamp in Etched Platinum. I wanted to really enhance the stain glass look and this was the perfect powder to use to do that. I then watercolored the image.

I love this sentiment set by Whimsy Stamps. You can create so many different encouraging sentiments and I love the mix of fonts. I stamped the YOU ARE in black and then embossed it with Clear Gloss Super Fine. I stamped loved in the same ink but didn't emboss it. I love the mix of texture along with the fonts!

For my second card, I embossed the background stamp on a dark card stock and embossed it with Capri which is a stunning blue powder mixed with gold glitter. It absolutely pops against the card stock!

I kept the design for the sentiment simple here by embossing the YOU ARE with Opaque Bright White Super Fine embossing powder and embossed awesome on white card stock (using the same technique as above) and cut it into a banner that I popped up with a thin dimensional adhesive.

Check out the video below or on my YouTube channel to see how I created both of these cards in more detail for you!

"She Decided" Art Journal Page {Shawn Petite Creative Team}

Hi friends! I have a new art journal page to share with you today. I created this as part of the Shawn Petite Creative Team and I am excited to share it with you. The quote I used while I created it weeks ago, seems to be incredibly fitting for the world we are currently living in. As someone who has struggled with anxiety and fear for as long as I can literally remember, I was just breaking free from that in the past year...while something like this would normally just put me back into old ways (and Believe me, there are times when I am struggling) I refuse to give in. It might be the rebel in me but when someone tells me how I'm supposed to react or feel...well, I just refuse.

I love this page more now than I did when I created it. The colors, the vibe, the texture, it all makes me so very happy. The words Strength, Courage and Peace or so incredibly powerful and I hope it gives you comfort and inspiration today as you watch this page come together.

Here are a few close ups. You can find more on the Shawn Petite Blog!

The Hedgehog Hollow Box - Create Pattern Paper with Stencils

Hello crafty friends! Do you ever find yourself falling into the comparison trap? You know the one, you look at your cards or coloring and then see a photo pop up on social and just start to compare yourself? I know, we’ve all done it. As creatives it’s hard not to sometimes and that’s why as soon as I saw this sentiment in The Hedgehog Hollow March box, I wanted to create an encouragement card. It’s the perfect pick me up for whatever the reason someone might need it. I loved the rulers both in the stamp and stencil in this kit so I wanted to create my own fun unique pattern paper using that.

See more photos on The Hedgehog Hollow Blog and watch the entire process of how I created this background using Ranger Ink Distress Oxides inks as well as a stencil to create this card below:

Brutus Monroe Surface Sprays as Watercolors

Hi Everyone! I am excited to share my first project as part of the Brutus Monroe Inspiration Team for YouTube. If you follow me on social media, you've seen this announcement and I also shared the box of goodies I got in THIS video. When I looked at the Surface Sprays and it said you could watercolor with them, I thought that would be super fun for my first project. I also noticed it says it's permanent when dry so I will definitely be testing that in my art journals!

I started by stamping the butterfly on 140lb cold press watercolor paper. Then I used the nozzle of the spray to lay a bit of the pigment on my glass mat. I pulled out a small round 2 brush to do my watercoloring. I do love how I can layer these up to create shadows and they even mixed beautifully together to create a new shade. You don't see it much but I definitely will remember that for next time! I couldn't resist adding a bit of shimmer to the wings either as a final touch as well as some white details with a gel pen.

After I die cut the circle and stamped the sentiment, I placed the circle die back over the paper and used it as a guide for my faux stitching with a black fine liner. I love this little detail on my cards. I also distressed the edge of my pattern paper for a bit more texture. After adhering everything to my card base, I added some sequins for a final touch and that completes my card!

I also filmed the process...as part of the YouTube team, this is what I will do each week and I'm super excited for the weeks ahead...to hopefully bring you inspiration and something to watch and listen to OTHER than the news. Be sure to subscribe to the Brutus Monroe YouTube Channel HERE so you don't miss mine or the other amazing inspiration team member videos!

Much love to you all!

The Hedgehog Hollow March Subscription Box Crafty Friends Card

Hi friends! I have a new card on The Hedgehog Hollow blog using the March Subscription box to create another fun crafty friends card. It was fun to pull out my Copic Markers to do a little coloring and masking to create this one layer card.

Birthday Card for My Son {Picket Fence Studios}

Hi friends! Do you ever see a stamp set and know exactly what you want to use it for? My son turned 10 years old this month and I picked up this stamp set from Picket Fence Studios specifically to create him a birthday card. I love cute stamps and a lot of times boy themed cute stamps just aren't easy to find. That's why THIS SET was perfect - I fell in love instantly with all those beautifully illustrated faces!

I started by stamping the head that I wanted to color like my son first, then masked him off. I started adding the other images and masking them until I was happy with the placement and fill of the background. This was pretty easy to do, it just takes a bit of time and sometimes I had to stamp multiple times to get a good impression around the masks. Thank goodness for Stamp Positioners like THIS ONE that I can't wait to get my hands on!

The idea for this card all came from this sentiment that says "I spy a birthday boy" - immediately I thought of coloring all the boys in a monochromatic black and white look except for the boy I wanted to stand out as my birthday boy! This was super easy to do with my copic markers. I just pulled out all my W markers and used the same color combos for 2-3 of the boys to create some variation. When coloring in a monochromatic style, it's important to make sure you still have some lights and darks so using a few colors really helps to create that depth. I then used my usual skin tone and favorite hair combo to color the boy I wanted to stand out and colored his shirt my son's favorite color. I searched for about 30 seconds for a blue card stock in my stash to mat my panel but quickly realized it would be much simpler to just use the medium Copic blue I used for the shirt on my card base for a perfect match.

Copic Colors:
W0, W1, W2, W3, W4, W5, W7, W8, W9
B24, B26, B28
E42, E44, E47, E49
E000, E00, E11, BV23, E93

I absolutely love how this card turned out and so does my son! He had a great birthday and I love giving my kids unique birthday cards like this one that really reflects who they are and what they currently love. In the past I've done super heroes, princesses and more. It's pretty special when you can create a card that reflects your loved one or friend. I think that's what I love about this craft the most.

Do you like to color images based on who you are sending them to?

Wow! Embossing + Waffle Flower Crafts Birthday Card!

Hi friends! I have a new post over on the Wow! Embossing blog and YouTube channel. I truly love how this card turned out and hope you will enjoy checking it out. I am sharing one of my favorite techniques where I emboss a stamped image and watercolor it. I know this isn't anything new but each time is a different outcome depending on the stamp, embossing powder color and watercolors used.

Hedgehog Hollow Design Team Debut with a Fun Watercolor Card Background!!

There are some exciting things happening around the old inky fairy blog here and today I would like to share that I have joined The Hedgehog Hollow Design Team for their spring term! I have admired Alexandra for quite some time and have been super impressed with her subscription boxes. I was super excited when they invited me to join their spring term!

When I first saw the contents of the March Subscription box, I thought it was amazing with the crafty them. I was immediately drawn to the little paint tubes and thought it would be a fun card to have the all spilling out into a fun background of rainbow colors.

I started by stamping 5 of the paint tubes across the top of the watercolor paper trimmed down to 5.5" x 4.25" to fit a standard size A2 card base. I used my favorite watercolor ink by Inkon3 and stamped some off the page so it looked pretty random. After that, I started adding my paint in rainbow order using a small round 2 watercolor brush and slowly drawing the color down the page. I also splashed a bit of the color on the background for even more texture in the background. I added some shading with a neutral gray paint and shimmer with Inkon3 Liquid Pixie Dust mixed with some water on the tubes as well as splashing a little on the entire card.

Next, I used my stamp platform to stamp this beautiful hand lettered stamp inspire mixing the font with You and Me that is also in the sentiment stamp set. The sentiments are endless with this versatile set and I am excited to use it more throughout the month!

I filmed the entire process for you from start to finish along with some of my favorite techniques to watercolor stamps and backgrounds. I'm excited to bring you at least 2 video tutorials using each months stamp contents throughout my term and hope you will enjoy the first one here or watch director my YouTube channel!

**My video is giving me grief when I try to export it but I'm continuing to troubleshoot it and hopefully will have it available soon!**

Thanks so much for visiting my blog today! Until next time, do something that makes you happy today!

Herself Again Art Journal Page {Shawn Petite Creative Team}

Creating faces can be quite intimidating but thankfully Shawn Petite has several faces stencils to give you the perfect guide. This page has been in the back of my mind for some time. There is something magical about a crown of florals that just pulls at me. Plus right now I am really enjoying creating faces in my art journals. I wanted to share how to do that in an easy way if you aren’t quite confident you’re your own drawings. That’s something that I love so much about using stencils in my artwork. You can create anything you desire.

Wow! Embossing March Challenge: New To You!

I dreamt of this card while I was laying down with my 2 yr old during her nap. This month's Wow! Embossing Facebook challenge is all about using New To You supplies and I have been wanting to play with this new stamp from the Whit's Card Kit from Unity Stamp Co. I thought the mountains would look so beautiful with some heat embossing on the peaks and I was so right! I also have been listening to what people want to see on my YouTube channel with more watercolor cards so I decided to paint this entire card from start to finish for you.

I absolutely love the way this Bahama Embossing powder looks on my card. It is so easy to add specific areas of embossing on your stamps with the new Mixed Media Embossing Brush. I have been having a ton of fun playing with this new product on all sorts of mixed media projects and love that it is just as versatile for stamping and card making!

Here is a full process tutorial of this card on my YouTube channel. I'd love to hear what you think! I'm a little bit all over the place with the voice over but I think you get the idea.

Enjoy some close ups of the detail in this card:
