Mixed Media Monday: Let's explore alcohol inks!

Hi everyone! I'm back with a Mixed Media Monday video today on my YouTube channel! I did a little organization and cleaning this weekend and came across a bunch of old alcohol inks I had in my stash. I also added a couple more from Brea Reese and couldn't stop thinking about creating with this medium so I finally made some time to do just that. Here are the results of this experimentation!

I absolutely love the vibrancy of alcohol inks first of all and the texture that it creates using my paintbrush was beautifully unexpected. While I love the stunning abstract paintings using alcohol inks, I really want to experiment further into more floral paintings eventually. For now, I was just introducing myself to this medium and getting familiar. I worked on different surfaces like a bathroom tile I picked up (years ago) at Goodwill plus some Yupo paper which takes alcohol inks beautifully and is considered the "good stuff" when it comes to paper for alcohol ink paintings.

The best place I've found to start playing and getting to know this medium without fear of messing up or expectations is to use a white (bathroom or kitchen) tile like this one. Alcohol inks work best doing their thing on non porous surfaces. These are great because if you mess up, grab some Isopropyl Alcohol and it will just wipe right off giving you a new clean slate to start practicing again. I couldn't  bring myself to do that though because I fell in love with the way it turned out even though it was nothing like I had set out to do! Happy accidents always!

Copic Coloring: Stamping Bella Curvy Girl with a Newborn

Hi everyone! I'm back today with a sweet tag featuring Stamping Bella Curvy Girl with a Newborn stamp. I used my Copic markers to color her and stamped her on my tried and true Hammermill Premium Color Copy Cover 100lbs paper. This is the paper I started coloring on 10 years ago but then fell in love with Copic Xpress It Color Cardstock but when my new ream of that paper started gumming up and leaving a residue I have been testing out different papers to color on. What I love about the Hammermill paper is that it is glossy which is what I loved about the Xpress It cardstock and it doesn't feather or bleed when I lay down ink. It's probably what I will end up using from now on but I may still test other papers people have suggested and/or sent to me.

Copic Markers:
Skin - YR000, YR000, E00, E21, BV23, R20 (Baby - YR0000, YR000, YR01, BV31)
Hair - E42, E44, #47, E49
Dress/Shoes - R00, R02, R21, R22
Baby Clothes - BG11, BG34, BG13
Flower - BG34, Y17, Y38, BV23
Shadows - BG70, B91, B60, W0, W2, W4

I have a video for you as well showing how I colored her. I just love these new Curvy Girl stamps by Stamping Bella. They are so fun to color. I created a simple tag since I was placing this on in a gift bag rather than put it on a full card. This stamp is perfect for any new mama's in your life. You can color the baby clothes to match the gender of the baby and I love the sentiments in this set!

Watercolor Wednesday: Floral Bouquet

Hi everyone! I'm bringing back my Watercolor Wednesday videos. I've been watercoloring since I got my first set of watercolor markers in 2014 about 6 months after my 4th child was born. I feel like I should be better with this medium I love so much by now so it's time to practice more. I will be sharing this practice with you each wednesday with short, simple videos on my YouTube Channel with little or no voice over. I don't feel like I can properly explain my process when I'm still very much learning it myself! I hope you will still enjoy these videos though and like, share and subscribe when you do!
