Hi everyone! It has been awhile since I've shared some mixed media I've done just for me. Last week, Dina Wakley issued a challenge to her fans on her Facebook page. Of course, I completely misinterpreted the challenge to use an inspiring quote and just saw the words challenge, art journal, quote and went with my favorite quote that I've been thinking about turning into a page in my art journal this month. Oops! I'm still happy I joined in the challenge though because I found so much joy in the process of this particular page.
October has always been my favorite month. I love how the air turns cooler and since moving to a state that has actual seasons, watching the leaves turn beautiful shades of gold, orange and red. The skies always seem to be a bit more bluer in October, too. This quote is one of my favorites to capture the way I feel about my favorite month. I added it to my page last and admittedly practiced a LOT before I actually wrote on my page. I just don't like my handwriting and wish I could master beautiful lettering but don't seem to have the patience to learn. haha I wrote the quote with the Stabilo All Purpose pencil in black and went over the lines with a damp paintbrush to darken the ink. Then I filled in all the loops with a white gel pen.
Here is a close up of the left page. I'm seriously giddy that I am working in this large Dylusions Creative Journal. I have had it for ages and been too intimidated by such a large work area - 11x17 I think is about the size of the double spread pages which is a LONG way from the 4.25x5.5 size cards I'm comfortable working on! Once I let go of that fear though, I love the large area and really enjoy letting myself get lost in the process of filling it up.
I love this page because you can see how pretty the Dina Wakley Heavy Body Acrylic paints mix when I sprayed them with water and let them drip down my page. This is definitely a happy moment on the page. I used the colors Turquoise and Night - they are my favorites!
I'm going to flood my post now with some close ups of the page:
This is another favorite part of my page. I used some coffee filter pages by Christy Tomlinson that I've hoarded FOREVER to cut out my pumpkins and adhered them to my page with Liquitex Gel Medium. I outlined the edges of each pumpkin with the Stabilo All Purpose Pencil in black and went over top with a damp paint brush. Then I used a combination of Dina Wakley Heavy Body Acrylics and Dyan Reaveley Dylusions paints with my fingers to color each pumpkin. For the stems and shadows I used Golden Acrylic in Burnt Sienna.
Thanks so much for stopping by today! I would love it if you would click on the button below to subscribe to my blog to let me know you enjoy what you see and would like to see more!
